I also agree. The idea that if you're good at something, you have to have _something_ dedicated to your glory at it is rather silly. I'd give an example in my own life but alas I'm not all that good at anything ;) But there is always the stigma that a mechanic's car never works... Same thing I guess.

Nail, head, bam. I certainly don't have that kind of time, so go ahead and flame me for not having ambition enough or whatever. While plenty of my free time is spent designing, coding, or reading up on how others are doing so, etc., I just don't seek out updating a personal site - which isn't to say I might eventually dive into the blog universe or whatever eventually. There are few designers/developers who I would consider to be XHTML/CSS/JS gods that I wish would write more online about their expertise, but don't for their own varying reasons - <a href="http://www.scottandrew.com" title="DHTML god">Scott Andrew</a> comes to mind.

I only scanned the original MezzoBlue post, so perhaps he's more thinking that at least you have an environment to work in, not so much a public site - whether it be a server on your own home computer or through some hosting service. 99% of what I do on my sites is not accessible by anyone other than me or others through username/password.

But you still shouldn't assume that a pro - regardless of profession - will have an equivalent setup at home. By that token, I wouldn't dare assume that a master chef has all the ingredients & gear the restaurant has.
